This months kudos is very special. This year, Younique decided to wait to announce our August kudos at convention. Every year in August, we have our annual Younique convention. It’s a weekend of training, recognition, empowerment and rejuvenation (I could go on and on about what convention does for me. I will save that for another time). We were told in July that we would need to wait a few days into August to hear what our new kudos would be.
I was eagerly anticipating the announcement. We always launch new products at convention, so I was thinking it would have something to do with that. Saturday rolls around and one of the convention sessions was about The Younique Foundation.
If you did not know, our founders, Derek and Melanie, started a foundation alongside Younique to help sexually abused women heal and find self worth.
I know this can be an uncomfortable topic for people. Can I ask you a favour? Please keep reading. Don’t see the words sexual abuse and shut down on me. Please stay with me.
The Foundation has a retreat that sexually abused victims can attend to heal their souls, renew their hearts and find their strength. Everyone deserves to be bold and to love themselves.
If we don’t talk about what is going on and educate ourselves, we are taking away that chance. As you can imagine, this session is very emotional. The foundation also focuses on educating parents and caregivers on ways to prevent sexual abuse.
The statistics are very alarming. 1 in 4 girls will be sexually abused in their life and 90% of the time, they know their abuser. For boys, it’s 1 in 5.
As a mother, these statistics scare me. What scares me more though is us all moving along and pretending that these stats don’t exist and don’t impact us.
Shelaine Maxfield, The Younique Foundation president, shared with us some of the amazing accomplishments the foundation has achieved since last convention. Unveiling our future plans which include building our own retreat house on land that has already been purchased. A house where women go and find themselves again. A safe place. Right now, they lease a house. A beautiful sanctuary in a secluded and private location nestled in mountains. A true place for peace.
Shelaine is very passionate about our cause and as she is standing on the stage tearfully telling us how important this foundation is, I am just as emotional sitting in my seat. Thinking of all the women who have been victimized and violated. I could feel their pain in my heart and I weeped for them all.
When I began my journey with Younique, I was excited to build a business sharing makeup. Now I realize how powerful our army of Younique presenters really is with this amazing foundation behind us. We have something to fight for, we have something that fuels us on a level that is beyond a paycheque. I am proud to be apart of such an incredible movement of uplifting, empowering and validating women.
If you are wondering what all this has to do with August Kudos, I will tell you. This months kudos is called Defend Innocence.
Younique has created three special shades of our favourite products to honour the survivors. The Younique Foundation gives these survivors the chance to not be victims, but to become strong, confident, bold SURVIVORS.
Now we have special products just for them, to honour them. I am full of love when I introduce the Defend Innocence Bundle.
Splurge Cream Shadow in Hopeful, a soft, glimmering pink eye shadow.
Moodstruck Precision Pencil Eyeliner in Purposeful, a rich, eggplant purple.
Moodstruck Opulence Lipstick in Sitting Pretty, an iridescent pink.
Each shade was specially created and named to help us all feel united and brave for each other.
